Special purpose machines do one apparel operation a general station cannot: bartacking a stress point, sewing a buttonhole, setting a button, tacking a belt loop, or attaching an elastic waistband. Each is engineered around a single job, so it performs that job faster and more consistently than any adapted general machine ever could.
What defines the category is dedication. A bartack machine makes the same reinforced stitch cluster every cycle; a buttonhole machine cuts and sews a finished hole to a set size; a button setter positions and secures a button in one action.
